What Is That?

Propylene Glycol

  • A synthetic liquid substance that absorbs water
  • Frequent exposure can irritate skin
  • “Generally recognized as safe”

 

Ammonium Alum

  • Inorganic Salt
  • Too large to be absorbed

 

Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex

  • Small molecular mass that easily cross through the skin/blood barrier and enter your body
  • A toxic aluminum (first recognized as a human neurotoxin in 1886)
  • Linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease

 

Cyclopentasiloxane

  • A type of synthetically manufactured silicon

 

Glycerin

  • A simple sugar alcohol
  • Moisturizes and improves smoothness

 

Glyceryl Laurate

  • Monoglyceride produced from glycerin and lauric acid which is made from vegetable oils

 

 

BHT

  • A lipophilic organic compound
  • Debate surrounds the link of BHT to cancer risk, asthma and behavioral issues in children

 

Dipropylene Glycol

  • Mixture of 3 isomeric chemical compounds
  • Used as a plasticizer

 

Stearyl Alcohol

  • Organic compound known as a fatty alcohol
  • Low toxicity

 

Dimethicone

  • Silicon based polymer
  • Used as a moisturizer
  • May cause burning, stinging, redness, or irritation

 

Silica

  • Chemical compound that is an oxide of silicon
  • Mostly comes from quartz
  • Used to absorb water

 

Ascorbic Acid

  • A naturally occurring organic compound with antioxidant properties
  • A vitamin C derivative
  • High doses can cause a number of health risks
